The property, which is about 400 acres, was purchased in 1984. Although sadly neglected it did, however, and still does have a generous water right.
Work began to improve the property in 1985. In the ensuing years continuous improvements to pastures and irrigation infrastructure have been undertaken so it is now predominantly commandable by irrigation. This has enabled us to increase the sheep and lamb production.
Our vineyard comprises 2 blocks:
The small experimental block adjacent to the dam was first planted in 1998 with Shiraz, Pinot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
All of our vines are on grafted rootstock to prevent nematode infestation which occurs in sandy soils. Phylloxera it not present in our area so consequently is not a problem.
The main block adjacent to the entrance was planted the following year with Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
Plantings are on grafted rootstock to prevent nematode infestation which occurs in sandy soils. Phylloxera it not present in our area so consequently is not a problem for us at Cornelia Creek.
All of our vines are spur pruned by hand to single cordon and are irrigated as required.
Spraying programs are carefully managed to prevent vine diseases such as downy mildew, powdery mildew and Botrytis.
We perform all vineyard management ourselves and have an annual production of approximately 500 cases.
